This month we have a feature performance from poet Julia Gaskill, the winner of Comedy vs. Tragedy #18.

Julia Gaskill is a professional daydreamer hailing from Portland, Oregon. When she’s not hosting Slamlandia, she can be found performing on the Portland Poetry Slam stage, exploring the Pacific Northwest, or walking your dog. Julia has competed in IWPS, WOWPS, and NPS throughout 2016 – 2018, and she was the Portland Poetry Slam rep at WOWPS 2018 in Dallas, TX. Her work has been featured on FreezeRay Poetry, Ink&Nebula, Slam Find, Write About Now, Rising Phoenix Review, and Voicemail Poems. It goes without saying that she loves Muppets more than you. Their writing appears in the collections Multiverse on Write Bloody Press and Nouns Of Assemblage on Housefire Books. Minda Lacy (musician)

Minda Lacy is a singer songwriter originally from New Mexico but currently resides in Portland OR. Her sound is a lyrically driven folk with vaguely morbid psychedelic undertones and a light hearted sweetness reminiscent of s cool breeze blowing through a chinchillas belly fur. You can find Minda’s music at bitchesinthebeehive.bandcamp.com.

James Barela (comedian)

James Barela’s comedy explores social quandaries with goofy voices and cautionary tales–and always from a working stiff’s perspective. The son of a palm reader and a Mexican metal worker in Oklahoma, Barela lived in New York City for several years before becoming a Portland comedy stalwart. Delivered with the likability of a teddy bear who’s seen some shit, James Barela’s comedy welcomes you into his unique and tangy mindset. – James also produces a bomb-ass weekly comedy show called Sincerity is Gross, named Best New Standup Showcase in 2018 by Willamette Week in Portland, OR.
