Update 6: Literary Arts has launched the Booth Emergency Fund for Writers and Oregon Humanities is offering emergency funding for organizations. Both have deadlines coming up in May, which have been added to the calendar below.

Update 5: RACC has established an Emergency Artist Relief Fund to which you can apply and donate. They have also set up a page listing other relief resources.

Update 4: Two local Relief Funds for small businesses and artists have been set up if you’d like to apply for support or offer donations. They are the Portland Small Business Relief Fund and the Portland Area Artist Emergency Relief Fund. Literary Portland is not personally associated with either of the funds, so, please direct all questions etc. to their respective organizations.

Update 2: A “stay at home” order has been issued by Gov. Kate Brown. See also this FAQ from OPB. Until the order is lifted, you can assume all in-person readings and events have been cancelled. We’ll continue to update things to match organization and stores’ calendars etc., but heed Brown’s orders and updates from officials on proper actions. Hope you all can stay safe, healthy, and cozy with a good book at home!

Deep Artwork 3D book release party with Pat Moriarity

3D mastermind, Christian LeBlanc has taken Pat Moriarity’s powerful crazy art and turned it into a brain-bending, eye-shattering experience – DEEP ARTWORK.

Join Moriarity on Sunday May 5th to celebrate the release of this giant-sized 3D art zine. 32 pages measuring 12 x 9.5 inches. Iggy Pop’s butt has never stuck out farther. Between Pat Moriarity’s art and Christian LeBlanc’s 3D work, all the different colored pages, and the large magazine size with rounded corners, this book is a circus of visual delights. Printed on glossy 120g paper with 300g cardstock covers. A unique limited edition that is sure to sell out. Each book comes with a free pair of 3D glasses.

Local band Personal Days will kick off the party with an acoustic set. The band is a mix of Terah Beth and Justin from Hey Lover (who is featured in DEEP ARTWORK) and Mikey from The Bugs.

Pat Moriarity started out as a punk rock artist in the mid-1980’s music scene of Minneapolis, working for Twin/Tone records. He got his start in sequential art in 1987 with Fantagraphics and went on to appear in anthologies like ZERO ZERO, REAL STUFF, PICTOPIA, TOP SHELF, Aleksandar Zograf’s FLOCK OF DREAMERS, DUPLEX PLANET and AESOP’s FABLES before getting his own comic book title, the Harvey Award nominated BIG MOUTH, in 1993. He eventually moved from Minneapolis to Seattle in 1991 and became an art director for Fantagraphics, and later for THE COMICS JOURNAL.

In 1996, Pat was honored as ROLLING STONE Magazine’s “hot cartoonist”. He currently lives and works from home in Port Orchard, Washington, contributing to MINESHAFT MAGAZINE, and working on lots of cartoon projects. His first appearance in MAD magazine just happened in the April issue, number 6.
