Update 6: Literary Arts has launched the Booth Emergency Fund for Writers and Oregon Humanities is offering emergency funding for organizations. Both have deadlines coming up in May, which have been added to the calendar below.

Update 5: RACC has established an Emergency Artist Relief Fund to which you can apply and donate. They have also set up a page listing other relief resources.

Update 4: Two local Relief Funds for small businesses and artists have been set up if you’d like to apply for support or offer donations. They are the Portland Small Business Relief Fund and the Portland Area Artist Emergency Relief Fund. Literary Portland is not personally associated with either of the funds, so, please direct all questions etc. to their respective organizations.

Update 2: A “stay at home” order has been issued by Gov. Kate Brown. See also this FAQ from OPB. Until the order is lifted, you can assume all in-person readings and events have been cancelled. We’ll continue to update things to match organization and stores’ calendars etc., but heed Brown’s orders and updates from officials on proper actions. Hope you all can stay safe, healthy, and cozy with a good book at home!

Free Comic Book Day 2019 at Bridge City Comics!

EDITED TO ADD: Joining us for Free Comic Book Day for the first hour or so will be a Captain America cosplayer! Come get your picture taken with Cap!

Also, local artist Jeremy Colwell will be signing from 11am – 12pm! Jeremy’s newest book is Batman/TMNT III #1 and we’ll have copies on hand for purchase!


Bridge City Comics in Portland, OR is one of thousands of comic book shops around the world celebrating the comic book art form on Saturday, May 4. On Free Comic Book Day, close to 2 million comic books will be given away by participating stores, introducing as many people as possible to the wonders of comic books!

“The wide array of comic books being published today ensures that readers of all ages – children, teens, and adults – can find something appropriate that will stir their imaginations,” said Michael Ring, owner of Bridge City Comics. “Come by on May 4th and let us show you what’s out there!”
