The Fall 2019 Hodgepodge reading even will be hosted by Tuna Cole.

Author/Reader Bios:

Tuna Cole: After a decade of teaching English in Japan, in 1995 Tuna and his Japanese wife moved to Portland where he worked odd jobs and began his MA in (applied) linguistics, completing in Spring 2005. Since then, he has worked as an English tutor at PCC while writing four books: Ragnarok, A Plausible Future (2009); Voyage of the Yellow Submarine, a multi-voice chronicle of life in a commune (2012); Shards, a life in pieces (2014); and Demons Be Gone, A Romance (2017). Currently, Tuna is enmeshed in his fifth book, a gonzo memoir, a blow-by-blow account of Tuna’s various incarnations.

Allisa Cherry was raised in the rural religious community of St. Johns, AZ where she began this lifelong boxing match with religion and poetry. She often writes about the tension between gender and culture, and the geography of the Southwest. She currently lives in Portland and is finishing her MFA in Poetry at Pacific University. She has had poetry published by PoetsArtists Magazine and nonfiction published at Queen Mob’s Teahouse.

Dan Hannon holds a Masters in Creative Writing from the University of Oregon. He taught writing and international studies at Mt. Hood Community College for thirty-one years, and also coordinated the study abroad programs for MHCC, as well as for a consortium of five Oregon community colleges. From 2011 – 1013, he wrote a blog for older athletes, “Older Athletes Rock,” with profiles of successful older Northwest athletes, and tips for nutrition and training. He now tutors writing students as a volunteer at Portland Community College’s Southeast campus. He loves to kayak, cross country ski and backpack. Dan lives with his wife, Cathie, and enjoys following the lives of an eclectic tribe of offspring. Dan participated in the late Peter Sears’ poetry workshops for several years. He has participated in various poetry readings in Portland, and has published poems in Just Now: 20 New Portland Poets.
