We are thrilled to welcome author, teacher, and activist Jenny Brown in conversation with Portland author Leni Zumas. A portion of the proceeds of this day’s sales will be donated to Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon.

Brown will be here to talk with Zumas about her book Birth Strike: The Hidden Fight over Women’s Work, published by PM Press. She has another new book as well from Verso books, Without Apology: The Abortion Struggle Now.

Jenny Brown is a women’s liberation organizer and former editor of Labor Notes. She was a leader in the grassroots campaign to get morning-after-pill contraception available over-the-counter in the United States. She is the co-author of Women’s Liberation and National Health Care: Confronting the Myth of America. While editor at Labor Notes magazine, she co-authored How to Jump-Start Your Union: Lessons from the Chicago Teachers. She writes, teaches, and organizes with the feminist group National Women’s Liberation.

Leni Zumas directs the creative writing program at Portland State University. Her most recent book, Red Clocks, won the Oregon Book Award for Fiction this year. The novel was also shortlisted for the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction and the Neukom Prize for Speculative Fiction. Red Clocks was a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice and was named a Best Book of 2018 by The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Huffington Post, Entropy, and the New York Public Library.
