From Literary Arts’s website:

100 years of recording technology has increasingly changed the way we listen to, perform, and consume music. Highlighting select recordings and technologies from the “phonograph era” of the first half of the 20th century, PDX Jazz board member and educator Martin Mueller will present a lecture and discussion on how recording technology has changed the very experience of jazz as musical art and listening culture.

A native of Kansas City, KS and raised in Oregon, Martin Mueller and wife Sally recently returned to Portland after nearly four decades in New York City. Martin is the former Dean of The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in Greenwich Village and has been active in Jazz Education for 38 years, in the US and in more than 25 countries. He was a founding member of the International Association of Schools of Jazz and was the NYC leader for the NEA research study “Changing the Beat: A Study of the Worklife of Jazz Musicians.” Martin has appeared on numerous jazz and arts panels and received Downbeat Magazine’s Achievement Award for Jazz Education in 2002 and the “A Team” advocacy award from the Jazz Journalists Association in 2005.
