Pitch Practice

June 6, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free
Online, N/A, Portland, OR 97207

“Pitching is part writing, part strategy, part performance … but above all, it’s storytelling.”

Curious what goes into a great pitch? Want to know how to grab the attention of agents and publishers? Struggling to convey a novel’s worth of information into one pithy sentence? Join David Poulshock as he shares the essentials of effective pitching.

David will draw from his experience running the Conference Pitch Practice Room and from his “A TALE IN TWO MINUTES” workshop he co-developed with Nancy Froeschle, presented at the 2019 Conference and at the NW Film Center.

There will be a chance for some people to receive feedback, so be sure to bring along your current pitch. This will be a perfect warm up to the Willamette Writer’s Conference in August which offers lots of great opportunities to pitch your project.

Bio of the speaker:
David Poulshock is a filmmaker. A director. An editor. And a writer (which is a good thing, since a film worth watching — whether 30 seconds or 2 hours long — starts with a word). His work includes TV commercials and corporate films; the best-selling “Wee Sing” children’s videos for Universal Home Video; the series “Mathematics Illuminated” and “America’s History in the Making” for the Annenberg Channel; the feature documentary “Raw Materials;” and many other projects. His projects have won over 90 awards, including 9 national Telly Awards in 2015 alone.
