Slamlandia Digital Open Mic ft. Sheila J. Sadr

Slamlandia is a poetry open mic and slam that meets every month. This mic provides a creative, fun, and welcoming space for all literary communities in Portland. We encourage poets new and old to come share their work. We strive towards a safer space for poets to read their own poetry, witness others, and participate in community.

Hosted by Julia Gaskill. January’s featured poet is Sheila J. Sadr.

Slamlandia is hosting another digital poetry open mic. This open mic – only poetry, no music please – will take place on January 21st. We’ll be hosting this event with the help of Literary Arts.

Sign ups for the open mic will be posted at 6:30pm PT day of via Facebook posts and an Instagram story. Comment / reply to get your name on the list. Our open mic will begin at 7pm. Poets gets 3 minutes to share poetry – please do not go over time.

We will have a feature from Sheila Sadr.

Sheila J. Sadr is a first-generation Iranian-American poet, educator, and resident giraffe-enthusiast nuzzled somewhere along the Southern California coast. Sheila’s work has been featured with the United Nations, TEDx, Segerstrom Center of the Arts, House of Blues, Write About Now, Nat. Brut, Tinderbox Poetry, BOAAT, and many other gems. She took first place at the 2018 Jack Rabbit Poetry Slam and is a two-time finalist for the Not A Cult Poetry Book contest, winning the second time around. Sheila released her debut book, Birthday Girl, in November 2020 with Not A Cult Press. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University Los Angeles, specializing in Trauma Psychology, and serves as the Talent Director for The Definitive Soapbox family, one of LB’s longest-running open mics that is now going on its 11th year.
