Rocking Frog Cafe & NovaPDX present our Small Press Residency program starting this October. Every month, meet the people from local small press publishers involved in making great books. During the residency you can purchase the featured press’ books at Rocking Frog Cafe and meet the people behind them. This month our featured press is Perfect Day Publishing (www.perfectdaybooks.com).

Martha Grover

Martha Grover is an author, poet, and artist living in Corbett, Oregon. She is the author of One More for the People (Perfect Day Publishing) and The End of My Career (Perfect Day Publishing). The End of My Career was a finalist for the Oregon Book Awards in creative nonfiction in 2017. Her work has also appeared in The Collagist, Vol.1 Brooklyn, and The Portland Mercury, among others. She has been publishing her zine, Somnambulist, since 2003. Martha is currently at work on a graphic memoir. When she is not writing, Martha is making zines, art, and selling Real Estate.

Isabel Zacharias

Isabel Zacharias is a writer, musician and radio DJ from Kansas. She is a graduate of the Independent Publishing Resource Center’s Certificate Program in Poetry and the University of Oregon’s Kidd Tutorial Creative Writing Program, where she received the Kidd Prize in Poetry. Her arts journalism bylines have appeared at NPR and StoryCorps as well as in Willamette Week, Oregon Quarterly, About Face Magazine and Eugene Weekly. Her debut poetry chapbook, notes to next forever, was self-published in June of 2018, and her newest collection, Bore Goo, is forthcoming in 2020. She lives in Portland, OR with Egg (a fish) and Al (a man).

Skyler Norwood

Named one of Portland’s Most Influential Producers by the Willamette Week, Skyler Norwood has produced albums by Blind Pilot, Horse Feathers, Sara Jackson Holman, Sam Pinkerton, Talkdemonic, Rare Monk, Kina Grannis, Haley Johnson, and Priory, among others. His music and production have been featured in many films and TV shows, including Orange Is the New Black, Pretty Little Liars, Grey’s Anatomy, 90210, and Californication. Additionally, he’s a member of the band Point Juncture, WA, whose biggest fan is either Perfect Day Publishing’s Michael Heald or former Black Flag frontman Henry Rollins.

Perfect Day Publishing is a small press based in Portland, Oregon, founded in 2011 by Michael Heald. Perfect Day has published 8 books of creative nonfiction, including one Lambda Award finalist and two Oregon Book Award finalists. The authors published by the press include Martha Grover, Mohamed Asem, sung, Lisa Wells, and Nick Jaina. Their motto is “if it’s not personal, we’re not interested.” Every week, the authors and people behind Perfect Day will share their work and engage in informal conversation with Michael Heald about their experiences and process.
