Rocking Frog Cafe & NovaPDX present our Small Press Residency program starting this October. Every month, meet the people from local small press publishers involved in making great books. During the residency you can purchase the featured press’ books at Rocking Frog Cafe and meet the people behind them. This month our featured press is Perfect Day Publishing (www.perfectdaybooks.com).

Jessie Carver

Jessie Carver is a writer, editor, and adjunct professor who lives in Portland, Oregon, but grew up on a farm in the borderlands of New Mexico. Her fiction and poetry can be found in Entropy, Hobart, Barren, Watershed Review, and elsewhere.

Dan DeWeese

Dan DeWeese’s novel You Don’t Love This Man was a finalist for the Ken Kesey Award for Fiction and a winner of Late Night Library’s “Debut-litzer” Prize. Disorder, his story collection, was the inaugural title of the Oregon Book Club. His fiction has appeared in publications including Tin House, New England Review, Washington Square, and The Normal School, and his latest novel is Gielgud. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Propeller and publisher of Propeller Books (propellerbooks.com).

Evan Schneider

Evan P. Schneider is editor of The Best of Boneshaker: A Bicycling Almanac (2018), a publication Esquire called “a love letter to life in the saddle.” His novel, A Simple Machine, Like the Lever, was one of the best books of 2011 according to Willamette Week and optioned for film by the Hoffman Brothers. Evan has received fellowships from the Oregon Arts Commission and KHN Center for the Arts. He is currently at work on a book of poems. (evanpschneider.com)

Perfect Day Publishing is a small press based in Portland, Oregon, founded in 2011 by Michael Heald. Perfect Day has published 8 books of creative nonfiction, including one Lambda Award finalist and two Oregon Book Award finalists. The authors published by the press include Martha Grover, Mohamed Asem, sung, Lisa Wells, and Nick Jaina. Their motto is “if it’s not personal, we’re not interested.” Every week, the authors and people behind Perfect Day will share their work and engage in informal conversation with Michael Heald about their experiences and process.
