Small Press Residency – Propeller Books

Rocking Frog Cafe & NovaPDX present the Small Press Residency program. Every month, meet the people from local small press publishers involved in making great books. During the residency you can purchase the featured press’ books at Rocking Frog Cafe and meet the people behind them. This month our featured press is Propeller Books (www.propellerbooks.com).

Join us on Thursday, November 21st, for the last event for Propeller Books small press residency, hosted by Lucas Bernhardt, the guests for this evening are: Daneen Bergland, Ally Harris, and Harper Quinn.

Lucas Bernhardt holds MAs in English and in Writing from Portland State University, as well as an MFA in Creative Writing from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He manages the Portland State University Writing Center and is Propeller‘s poetry editor.

Daneen Bergland is a poet and writer those work has appeared in several journals, including Propeller, The Cincinnati Review, and Hunger Mountain, and was included in the anthology Alive at the Center: Contemporary Poems from the Pacific Northwest. The recipient of a writer’s fellowship for poetry from Oregon Literary Arts, she is a faculty member at Portland State University.

Ally Harris has two chapbooks of poetry, Her Twin Was After Me (Slim Princess Holdings) and Floor Baby (dancing girl press). Her writing has appeared in Tarpaulin Sky, inter|rupture, Sixth Finch, TYPO, The Volta, and more. She is the Poetry Editor of Heavy Feather Review and submission, a reading series run by blind online submission in Portland, OR.

Harper Quinn is the author of Coolth (Big Lucks Books, 2018). Quinn received an MFA from Cornell University in 2014, as well as fellowships from Literary Arts and the Regional Arts & Culture Council. Poems can be found in Gramma Daily, Gulf Coast, The Volta, and Sixth Finch. Quinn lives in Portland, Oregon, and works as Program Director at the Independent Publishing Resource Center.

Propeller Books is the publishing imprint of Propeller, a web magazine of literature, film, and culture. Lauded for both content and design, Propeller is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year with a series of events featuring writers and editors from throughout its decade of publication. On three Thursdays in November the authors and people behind the small press will share their work and engage in informal conversation about their experiences and process.
