Our words here are not enough, but we wanted to say we support you and will continue to do so through our actions.

Prior relief and support funds for small businesses and artists: NACF’s Native Arts Emergency Support Project, Portland Small Business Relief Fund, Portland Area Artist Emergency Relief Fund, RACC’s  Emergency Artist Relief Fund, RACC’s page for relief resources (and updated here), RACC’s COVID-19 relief Support Beam, Literary Arts’ Booth Emergency Fund for Writers, and Oregon Humanities’ emergency funding for organizations.

Gov. Kate Brown’s “stay at home” order still largely remains in effect for Portland area businesses and gatherings (though other counties have some limitations lifted). See also this FAQ from OPB. Until the order is completely lifted for Multnomah county, you can assume all in-person readings and events have been cancelled.

Rocking Frog Cafe, 2511 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR 97214 + Google Map

Wordlights Saturday poetry evenings presented by NovaPDX, Rocking Frog Cafe and hosted by Igor Brezhnev.

On Saturday, September 14th, we are welcoming Bri Gowdy & Kate Leddy back from their tour! Of course, there will be a short set poetry open mic as well!

OUR FEATURE: Bri Gowdy

Bri Gowdy is a poet from Portland Oregon. In January she was published in The Rising Phoenix Review. Her chapbook There is Room for You Here, ( that is undoubtedly a Scorpio) covers topics such as self love, friendship and god stuff. Bri is most inspired when she is working with youth poets, or leading workshops. Bri above all is thankful to her community and believes deeply in accessible art. Bri spends much of her time organizing poetry events with other brilliant folks in the Portland area. Bri will be releasing her first book, Holy Soil, through Portland’s own Lightship Press in the fall. Find her on Facebook and Instagram @brigowdypoetry. Bri studies creative writing and publishing at Portland State University from now until she cant take it anymore. And, most importantly, she believes in you.

OUR FEATURE: Kate Leddy

Kate Leddy is a writer and mental health activist from Portland Oregon. She was born and raised in New York and still has strong opinions about bagels. Kate represented Portland at the 2018 Individual World Poetry Slam as well as the 2018 National Poetry Slam. She was thrilled to be on this years Portland Poetry Slam team again at the 2019 Bigfoot Regional Competition. Kate’s first chapbook Homesick Season explores nostalgia for people, places, and states of mind. You can now find it at bookstores in Portland and like it/roast it via Google Books Reviews. Kate enjoys ice cream sandwiches, a good cry, and excitedly pointing out the two constellations she knows.

Sign-ups start at 5:30, show starts at 6PM. On second and fourth Saturdays each performer in the open mic gets 5 minutes, there are only 8 slots available and the list order is randomized.

Come share your words and join us for a night of open mic, great poetry features and get nourishment & libations from Rocking Frog Cafe (home of the best donuts)! 🙂
