Wordlights Poetry ft. Jordan Wilson-Dalzell
October 12, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pmFree
Wordlights Saturday poetry evenings presented by NovaPDX, Rocking Frog Cafe and hosted by Igor Brezhnev.
On Saturday October 12th, we’ll have a feature from Jordan Wilson-Dalzell, two mini-features from Risa Mykland & Red O’Hare, and a short set poetry open mic!
OUR FEATURE: Jordan Wilson-Dalzell
Jordan Wilson-Dalzell (she/her/hers) is a poet living in Santa Cruz, California. Writer was the first name she called herself. Words are her compass. She teaches radical social justice to the little ones in her life–striving to infuse her teaching pedagogy with intersectional feminism and teaching through play. Her life centers around activism, supporting grassroots projects and one day creating a school focused on hands-on multi-lingual whole child community-based learning. In her free time, she spends her time reading, looking up bodies of water, and taking blankets back from her dog, Lega.
Risa Mykland likes cloudy days, poetry, and putting too much cream in her coffee. Her poetry talks about mental illness, abuse, and the various ways we can experience grief. She was on the Legendary Collective Slam Team in Santa Cruz, California, in 2018, the year they took first in both individual and group finals of Southwest Shootout. Risa’s best party trick is singing the alphabet backwards in eight seconds.
Red O’Hare is a Ashkenazi Jewish American poet from Oakland, California where she featured twice with Bay Area Generations. A product of Presbyterian missionaries from the Belgian Congo and Eastern European carny folk, Red has been performing poetry for 20 years with varying rates of success. She has recently released a poetry album Seaglass Strange (Lightship Press, 2019, redohare.bandcamp.com) and is currently working on a chapbook of poetry. Red works in a bakery and is compiling a list of people who want her dead. You can find more information about Red at facebook.com/mizredohare.
Sign-ups start at 5:30, show starts at 6PM. On second and fourth Saturdays each performer in the open mic gets 5 minutes, there are only 8 slots available and the list order is randomized.
Come share your words and join us for a night of open mic, great poetry features and get nourishment & libations from Rocking Frog Cafe (home of the best donuts)! 🙂
