Wordlights Saturday poetry evenings presented by NovaPDX, Rocking Frog Cafe and hosted by Igor Brezhnev.

On Saturday June 22nd, we’ll have a feature from Robert Lashley, two mini features from Dena Rash Guzman & Skyler Reed, and a short set poetry open mic!

OUR FEATURE: Robert Lashley

A 2016 Jack Straw Fellow, Artist Trust Fellow, and nominee for a Stranger Genius Award, Robert Lashley has had poems published in such journals as Feminete, Seattle Review of Books, NAILED, Gramma, Drunk in a Midnight Choir, and The Cascadia Review. His work was also featured in Many Trails to the Summit, an anthology of Northwest form and lyric poetry, and It Was Written, an anthology of poetry inspired by hip hop. His full-length books include THE HOMEBOY SONGS (Small Doggies Press, 2014) and UP SOUTH (Small Doggies Press, 2017). His latest chapbook, THE GREEN RIVER VALLEY, was published this year. Dena Rash Guzman

Dena Rash Guzman is the author of Life Cycle–Poems (Dog On A Chain Press, 2013) and Joseph (Hologram, 2017.) She produces and curates literary events in Portland, Oregon and is host of An Occasional Reading Series. She has performed her work and for audiences of hundreds at festivals and in theaters from New York to Las Vegas, Shanghai to Portland, and beyond. She is author of three award-winning plays and served as co-founder of Unchaste Readers, a Portland literary series by and for women and non-binary writers. She is a children’s disability rights advocate. She lives near Portland, Oregon.

Skyler Reed

Skyler Reed is an artist, writer, and musician living in Portland, OR. The founder of Moved By Words (www.movedbywords.org) a project dedicated to connecting new writers with writing communities, Skyler is the former Oregon Folklife Slam Champion, has read at Literary Arts in Portland and at Hugo House in Seattle, been featured at the Invisible Spectrum storytelling series, appeared in Portlandia, and is published in Voicemail Poems, R.I.S.E: Survivance: Indigenous Poesis, The LBCC Journal Creative Highway, and the Poetics Corvallis anthology This Love Is Legendary. Skyler is the author of two chapbooks, And All Ampersands (2016) and Sex & Wikipedia (2017).

Sign-ups start at 5:30, show starts at 6PM. On second and fourth Saturdays each performer in the open mic gets 5 minutes, there are only 8 slots available and the list order is randomized.
