Hugo Moreno and Guadalupe García McCall

FreeJoin us for a reading with two Oregon authors. Hugo Moreno, professor at Lewis & Clark college, will be reading from his new novel, Where The North Ends (Donde se acaba el Norte), and will be joined by Guadalupe García McCall, author of several books for young adult readers. Presented in partnership with Reed College and Lewis & Clark College.

Hugo Moreno was born in New Mexico and grew up in the Juárez/El Paso border area. He obtained his Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies at Cornell University, and has been a faculty member at the University of Michigan, Western University (Canada), Reed College, and Lewis & Clark College, where he currently teaches. He has written and edited a variety of academic articles on the literature and philosophy interface, including a forthcoming book titled Rethinking Philosophy with Borges, Zambrano, Paz, and Plato. His first novel, Donde se acaba el Norte, explores the relationship between dreams and reality, self and other, the physical and the metaphysical, the past and the present, as well as the colonial and contemporary history of New Mexico and Northern Mexico.
Guadalupe García McCall is the author of four award-winning young adult novels, Under the Mesquite, Summer of the Mariposas, Shame the Stars, All the Stars Denied and the upcoming Echoes of Grace (all from Lee and Low Books/Tu Books). She is the recipient of the prestigious Pura Belpré Author Award (2012). Guadalupe also received a Westchester Young Adult Fiction Award, the Tomás Rivera Mexican-American Children’s Book Award, and was a finalist for the William C. Morris Award and the Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy, among many other accolades. She is an advocate for literacy, diverse books, and Own Voices. In her travels, she is always looking for a good taco place and she never met a chocolate mole sauce she didn’t love! She loves to garden, cook, read, write, go for walks and take pictures of nature. Originally from Texas, she is currently an Assistant Professor of English at George Fox University and lives with her husband in the Pacific Northwest.
