Jazzy Mitchell, Musings of a Madwoman

Three women’s lives interweave as they struggle to navigate life and love. And the effects of a meteorite. Patricia Steitz, a successful romance writer, is flabbergasted when Rudi Singlewood shows up at one of her book signings and initiates a summer romance. She worries that the fantasies she’s harbored regarding the world-renown Broadway actress may prevent her from accepting who Rudi really is. She relates her fears to her best friend, Marcia Struthers, a successful Manhattan litigator. Knowing that Patricia has dreamed of Rudi for years, Marcia urges her to give the actress a chance by getting to know who she is behind her public persona. While working a high-profile case, Marcia must confront her resurging feelings for lead opposing counsel, Lexie Yamin, and the…

Bella LaVey, Fetish Girl: A Memoir of Sex, Domination, and Motherhood

Fetish Girl is a kinky roller coaster ride through addiction, violence, motherhood, sex, and the creation of Evil Kitty, Bella LaVey’s larger-than-life dominatrix persona. It is a singular memoir that shows that a heavily tatted BDSM sex worker can be courageous enough to come to terms with her painful truths and raise a healthy, loving child, even as she remains boldly sexual and authentic. It’s the story of a woman attracted to extremes who is willing to go to great lengths to uncover and make peace with her true nature. Bella LaVey spent five years as the highly sought-after dominatrix and erotic wrestler known as Evil Kitty. Through her own sexual awakening, she learned that there’s nothing more powerful than bringing one’s darkness into the…

Mystery Book Group – Dec

Up this month is a lighter read than we had at the holidays last year. We’ll be reading The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie for our December read, which should put us more in the holiday mood (than The Deep Blue Good-by did last year). We read mysteries and thrillers and meet on the third Tuesday of every month to discuss them. https://anotherreadthrough.indielite.org/book/9780385343497 [from Another Read Through’s website]

It’s been getting a lot of buzz so hopefully it can withstand our critical discussion. Visiting author Calvin Gimpelevich and More

Calvin Gimpelevich is touring the West Coast in support of his debut collection, INVASIONS! Join us in the loft for an evening of excellent trans literature as he’s inviting others to read as well. Of Invasions, Michelle Tea says: “Invasions blew my mind. Flipping between speculative worlds deeply rooted in realness and emotion and more familiar landscapes that tip on the edges of personal apocalypses, Gimpelevich’s writing is strong and sure, taking us places we really haven’t been. I’m hooked.” Featuring Misha Moon, Geeta Lewis, and possibly more TBA! https://anotherreadthrough.indielite.org/book/9781682199107 [From Another Read Through’s website]
