#Virtualandia! 2021: YOUTH POETRY SLAM CHAMPIONSHIP

#Virtualandia! 2021 is an exciting opportunity for students from eligible Portland metro area high schools to take part in a dynamic virtual slam poetry competition, and to win prizes like the title of #Virtualandia Slam Champion and corresponding $1,000 Visa gift card. Up to 300 youth poets will submit original work via video by midnight on Wednesday, March 31 to be reviewed and judged by a diverse group of artists and fans with a pulse on the literary scene. Ten poets will advance to our April 29, 2021 grand slam championship event. During the grand slam, these ten students will have their poems professionally recorded, aired, and scored by five judges in the typical Verselandia! tradition, identifying a top five and our next Grand Slam Champion. Join us for a virtual Slam and Open Mic! We will have a feature from Kadara “Kas” Scott! More about Kas: Kadara “Kas” Scott is a spoken word poet, activist, educator and donations-based childcare provider. Kas performs poetry centered around her experiences with trauma, relationships and being Black in Kentucky. The largely white audiences allow for gentle education in a safe space through spoken word. Kas can often be found watching the OG Twilight Zone and eating a double layer cake she purchased for herself. All money brought in from this event will go to the The Owensboro Black Expo. A Virtual Slam and Open Mic

Join us for a virtual Slam and Open Mic! Folks wanting to slam can sign up in advance by messaging the slam on Facebook or emailing us at Portlandpoetryslam@gmail.com For the Open Mic, we will make a post on the day of the event for folks to sign up! All poems in the slam or the Open Mic should be 3 minutes or less! This event will be held on Zoom. We will post a link 15 minutes before the event for folks to join.
