World Collage Day Afternoon Cut-Up

Come down to the Book Pub for a free, all ages celebration of World Collage Day, where we will cut, paste and play with the recently reinvigorated medium of collage. Materials (paper, vintage magazines, scissors, and glue) will be provided. Have fun, have some food and drink, make art, and post photos of your creations with #WorldCollageDay. Intro to Risograph Printing

Intro to Risograph Printing In this 4-hour introductory course, participants will learn the basics of risograph (riso) printing and will leave with an understanding of how to use this print technology to create zines, fliers, posters, or other printed matter. While this technology is not new, riso printing has recently become one of the most exciting developments in independent printing and publishing because of its cost-effectiveness for print runs between 25 and 1,000. Workshop participants will learn how to best maximize the many quirks of riso printing to achieve striking results. Be Honest 2019

Be Honest 2019 is the 10th annual Portland State University Graphic Design student portfolio showcase! Every spring, sophomores, juniors, and soon-to-be graduating seniors come together to show off their work at Wieden + Kennedy. Be Honest is a valuable opportunity for graphic design students to gain experience presenting their work and engaging with the community. It’s also an opportunity for creative professionals to check out all the great things coming out of PSUGD. Friends of Graphic Design’s pop-up shop featuring one-of-a-kind goods from PSUGD students, is also back at Be Honest with art prints, cards, zines, posters, jewelry, stickers, buttons, and much more available for sale. All proceeds from sales go directly to the student designers!

Day 1: Typesetting Essentials Day 2: Printing Essentials Learn to set moveable type and print on table top and poster presses in the IPRC print shop. You’ll learn the vocabulary of printing and typesetting while getting a feel for this beautiful and historic process. Gain access to IPRCs collection of over 150 fonts of lead and wood type. Leave the class with a printed card and the satisfaction that comes with using 100 year old equipment! Successful completion of this 1 day class grants IPRC Studio Members access to open studio print hours so you can keep on printing. Gridlords Presents a Collaborative Comics Evening

Gridlords is a Portland Based comics publisher and event organizer. This event is hosted by the IPRC, on April 15th, from 6:30-8:30 pm. In celebration of Portland’s own Comics Month, Gridlords would like to bring together the larger DIY comics community of Portland for a night of creative mixing and making. The goal is to make a collected anthology of pieces in one night. There will be stations with drawing games, prompts, and templates to follow. It is essentially a comics relay where we are all winners at the end of the race. It’s a time to collaborate amongst friends and peers and make magic happen.
