Hope Amico of gutwrench press is coming to the northwest for Olympis Zine fest and is making a stop in Portland to lead this one day workshop. In this 5 hour class we will turn old hardcover books into a durable journal that will lay flat when open but is sturdy enough to carry with you everywhere. Italic Handwriting & Calligraphy Club

Join us on for a drop-in Italic Handwriting & Calligraphy Club, all experience-levels welcome. Monday afternoons from 3—5 for eight weeks, September 30th through November 18th. Following the lineage of Portland’s own Lloyd Reynolds and Jaki Svaren, learn about posture, motion and breathing in alignment with calligraphic strokes. Through learning Italic and using it as a daily hand, we can bring beauty, attention, and rhythmic flow into our everyday script. $5—10 sliding scale materials fee.

About the Workshop: Learn to turn those digital illustrations into wonderful 3-color Riso prints! In this workshop we will create a digital illustration and then learn how to format that illustration so it can be printed using the risograph machines. About the Workshop: Welcome to the wonderful world of color and watercolor paint! In this class we’ll explore a few of the ideas and exercises from Lisa’s new book A Field Guide To Color. Through a playful approach you’ll begin to learn about color schemes, paint transparency, tints and shades, etc. With fun painterly experiments we’ll dive into how materials and other influences can impact our perception of color, and how to develop your own personal relationship with color. Portland Correspondence Co-op

PDXCC is a monthly gathering where participants make and share analog correspondence in the great mail art tradition of Ray Johnson and Anna Banana: art and conversation through the mail. This uniquely democratic, DIY art form incorporates writing, drawing, collage, rubber stamps, faux postage, decorative tape, typewriters – anything goes, as long as it goes through the mail. Hang out, skill share and send the glorious results through the mail. Monthly events hosted by the Portland chapter of the Correspondence Co-op and Niko Courtelis. Basic materials will be on hand (scissors, glue sticks, envelopes’85), but you’re encouraged to bring whatever materials fuel your creative spirit. Join us to learn about silkscreen printing! Learn how to create stencils, prep and process screens while gaining knowledge about tools, tips, and tricks for the photo emulsion process. You’ll have the chance to acquire best practices for setting up your print station, printing and registration while gaining practice with the medium.
