March is the month of St. Patrick’s Day. “Story Time for Grownups” presents tales by Ray Bradbury set in Ireland, and read by David Loftus at Rose City Book Pub, 1329 NE Fremont, 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2019. No cover charge.

The late Ray Bradbury is best known for stories set on Mars, or featuring witches and evil carnivals, peopled by young boys in the Midwest or monsters of the deep. But in the fall of 1953 he went to Ireland, the land of his forebears, to work with director John Huston on the screenplay for a film adaptation of Moby Dick. Out of that year came a series of sly, gritty, realistic stories about the people and land of the Emerald Isle, most of them with no fantasy or science fiction elements at all.

Founder of “Story Time for Grownups,” David Loftus has read to audiences in libraries, coffee shops, Powell’s Books, and even banks. He has recorded and performed live with the Willamette Radio Workshop. He appeared in an episode of Grimm as a French-speaking Reaper. You may have seen him in ads for SELCO Community Credit Union. A native Oregonian, he is the author of three books.
