Inheritance Workshop Series

To inherit means to derive characteristics, items, situations, or a predisposition from one’s ancestors. Often, the connotation of inheritance for people of color is generational and negative; there exists tangible disease, illness, trauma, and debt. As queer people of color we are all too familiar with these realities in our communities and in ourselves. The Inheritance Workshop Series seeks to redirect this concept of generational inheritance as a form of something beautiful and abundant; through past traditions, passions, cultures, and joys. Abundance exists loudly, more so than the negative. Let’s center the things we have accumulated and chosen to hold closely. Welcome to our Risograph Basics course: a printing, collage, experimentation, and mark making extravaganza! Get to know Outlet and our RISO sisters (Barbara, Janet, Corita, and Tina) and learn the basics of this fun and unique print method with Kate Bingaman-Burt! This workshop is a great place to start if you’re new to riso, or if you’d like a refresher! Exploring Our Inner Monsters: So many times we talk about our interests and desires, but what if we took the time to discover our inner monsters? What does that monster eat and thrive off? Ever wonder if someone else shares the same monster? Through guided writing prompts and dialogue, we will attempt to normalize our monsters and create from the exploration.
