Annual Zine Launch Party

Street Roots, Portland’s weekly newspaper that creates income opportunities for people experiencing homelessness and poverty, publishes an annual art and poetry zine highlighting the creative voices of their individual vendors. This year’s zine, I Am, focuses on the realities of being homeless and the beauty of being human.

In conjunction with Abigail DeVille’s current exhibition, The American Future, PICA will host a free party celebrating the launch of I Am on Sunday, December 9 from 12:00-4:00 PM, with a live poetry reading by vendors at 2:00 PM, and a display of visual art by vendors throughout the afternoon. Street Roots vendors will be on site the entirety of the event selling copies of the zine for $4 each (also available for sale from Portland vendors through the end of the year).

Artists on view will include: P. Oaks, Aileen McPherson, Mary Daniels, Eric Stayer, Christian “C.W.” Witt, Harry Richards, Chris Farland.

Production of I Am was supported by a generous grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council.
