Mike Birbiglia & J. Hope Stein Ticketed Event
September 13, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
$28In The New One: Painfully True Stories From a Reluctant Dad (Grand Central), comedian Mike Birbiglia devotes his unflinching and brilliant storytelling acumen to parenthood — to fatherhood — as well as how he, a man deeply determined never to have children, found himself with one. Nuanced, honest, hilarious, but also poignant, it’s a story that reveals not only his own but also our collective human nature — reassuring us that we’re actually all in this thing together. The New One is sprinkled with poetry by Birbiglia’s wife, J. Hope Stein, written as she navigated the same rocky shores of new parenthood. With laugh-out-loud observations on the roller coaster of being a parent, The New One is perfect for anyone who has ever raised a child, been a child, or refuses to stop acting like a child, but also for anyone who is afraid of change.
Join Birbiglia and Stein for an interactive virtual event that includes readings from their new book and an audience Q&A. Their reading will be a one-of-a-kind “choose your own adventure”-style event where the virtual audience will choose excerpts from the book they’d like to hear live. No two of Birbiglia and Stein’s “Jokes and Poems” events are the same, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Sacred Roots Community Doula Program of Portland’s Black Parent Initiative.
Please note: This is a ticketed event. Purchasing a preorder copy of The New One ($28) entitles you to attend our virtual event with Birbiglia and Stein on Saturday, September 12, at 6pm (PT). After you’ve purchased the book, we will automatically register you for the Zoom event, and will send you an email two days prior to the event containing a link to the event and instructions on how to access it. Your copy of The New One will ship on the day of the event.
