OREGON ONLINE: Panel Discussion with Produced Oregon Dramatists

FreeJoin us for a lively and informative conversation with Oregon Dramatists Anya Pearson, E. M. Lewis, and Octavio Solis. They will share their experiences along the road to having their work produced by Artists Repertory Theatre, Portland Center Stage, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and more. Get an insider view on working with some of the biggest theatrical houses in the state, while sharing some time with three creative, kind, and prolific artists!
This event is free and open for all to attend.
About the panelists:
E. M. Lewis is an award-winning playwright, teacher, and opera librettist. Her work has been produced around the world, and published by Samuel French. Lewis received the Steinberg Award for both How the Light Gets In and Song of Extinction, and the Primus Prize for Heads from the American Theater Critics Association, the Ted Schmitt Award from the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle for outstanding writing of a world premiere play, a Hodder Fellowship from Princeton University, a playwriting fellowship from the New Jersey State Arts Commission, the 2016 Oregon Literary Fellowship in Drama, and an Edgerton Award for her epic Antarctic play Magellanica that was produced at Artists Repertory Theater in 2018 and released as a five-part audio podcast in 2020. Lewis is currently working on a big, new political play called The Great Divide, commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival as part of their American Revolutions program, and co-commissioned by Artists Repertory Theater, where she is the Mellon Playwright in Residence through the National Playwright Residency Program. www.emlewisplaywright.com
Anya Pearson is an award-winning playwright, poet, producer, actress, and activist. On staff at Corporeal Writing, she was recently named a Hodder Fellow at Princeton University. Anya is currently finishing her debut collection of poetry, writing three pilots, and constantly plotting, planning, devising, creating, imagining, and revising visions of a better, more just world. Her plays include: The Measure of Innocence (The Kilroys’ List, Drammy Award for Best Original Script, Finalist: Oregon Book Award for Drama), Made to Dance in Burning Buildings (Showcase: Joe’s Pub, NYC; Shaking the Tree, Portland, OR), The Killing Fields (2018 Orphic Commission; Seven Devils; GPTC; VTC), and Three Love Songs (Play at Home initiative, Portland Center Stage). anyapearson.com
Octavio Solis’ works Mother Road, Quixote Nuevo, Lydia, Santos & Santos and El Paso Blue have been produced in theatres across the country. His fiction has been published in Zyzzyva, Catamaran, Huizache, the Chicago Quarterly Review and the Wildsam Field Guides (Texas). Solis is a 2020 inductee into the Texas Institute of Letters.
