Post-Show Interview with Vanessa Severo

FreeEmilly Prado, Portland-based founder of Nocha Libre DJ collective and author of Funeral For Flaca, will be on hand after the show to interview Vanessa Severo, the playwright and star of Frida … A Self Portrait. This is your chance to dig deeper into the play, through the unique perspective of an exciting local artist.
Vanessa Severo is the recipient of the TCG 11th Round of the Fox Foundation resident Actor Fellowships, 2017. She is the playwright and actor of Frida … A Self Portrait (2020 Kilroys’ List) a one-woman production about the tumultuous and brilliant life of Frida Kahlo. Vanessa is passionate about utilizing the element of Suzuki method in her work to challenge the boundaries of storytelling and explore the depths of movement, composition, and the power of stillness.
Emilly Giselle Prado is a writer, DJ, and educator living in Portland, Oregon, with roots in the San Francisco Bay Area and Michoacán, Mexico. As an award-winning multimedia journalist, Emilly spent half a decade independently reporting on a wide range of topics, most often centered on amplifying the voices and experiences of people from historically marginalized communities. Her writing and photographs have been published hundreds of times, appearing in more than 30 outlets including NPR, Marie Claire, Bitch Media, Eater, The Oregonian, Portland Monthly, The Stranger, Remezcla, and Travel Oregon.
Emilly is the author of the essay collection Funeral for Flaca (Future Tense Books, July 2021) and the youth non-fiction title Examining Assimilation (Enslow, 2019.) She is Blackburn Fellow and M.F.A. candidate at Randolph College, a Tin House and Las Dos Brujas Workshop alumna amongst others, co-founder of Portland in Color, and the Director of Youth Programs at Literary Arts. Emilly also moonlights as DJ Mami Miami with Noche Libre, the Latinx DJ collective she co-founded in 2017.
