Tales From a King County Search & Rescuer
November 13, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Free – $15Alexis’ story:
I first became involved in Search and Rescue back in 2014 when I was 18 years old, since then I have gone on over 85 missions and logged hundreds of training. I am now a member of three different units (Seattle Mountain Rescue, Everett Mountain Rescue and King County Explorer Search and Rescue). I am a board member for Everett Mountain Rescue and have been working hard in all three units to promote stress first aid as well as working with the Mountain Rescue Association to help promote diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout all Mountain Rescue organizations.
I am thrilled to get to talk about Search and Rescue and would love to tell you about what missions and body recoveries are like. Search and Rescue also assists the Sheriff’s office on evidence searches so I’ve helped look for murder and suicide victims, sifted through dirt looking for bones and combed hillsides looking for clues. I have also been involved in a rock-climbing accident (thankfully nothing that a little surgery and new teeth couldn’t fix!) so I also know what it feels like to be a subject in need of rescue and can share with you that experience. I’m also happy to answer any questions about rock climbing, glacier/high altitude mountaineering, backcountry skiing and ice climbing you may have.
I’m looking forward to chatting with you all! – Alexis Leader.
