After a memorable gathering last month, we invite you to join us at a new Constellation. In March we’re hosting local writer Michelle Ruiz Keil and two writers from the Carolyn Moore Writers House residency: Cristina Correa and Kira Brooke Smith.

Doors open at 6:45 and the reading starts around 7:15.

Cristina Correa (she/her) is from Chicago and is the recipient of awards from CantoMundo, VONA/Voices, Hedgebrook Foundation, and more. Her writing has been featured in the Academy of American Poets’ Poem-a-Day series, Missouri Review, Obsidian, NPR’s Latino USA, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. Her poem “Reflection from a Bridge” was selected by former U.S. Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith in the Best New Poets series.

Kira Brooke Smith (she/her) is a nonfiction writer in Portland, Oregon. She is a co-conspirator at Budding Roses Summer Camp and a proprietor of Porch Couch, the undisputed oldest punk house in Portland. Her writing is inspired by the persistent optimism of youth, autonomous organizing, and her encounters with the biophysical world. Her work has appeared in Oregon Humanities, Cagibi, The Pointed Circle, The Atticus Review, The Guardian Online, and more. She is an alumnus of Signal Fire Arts and Soaring Gardens residencies and has received support from the Regional Arts and Cultural Center.

Michelle Ruiz Keil (she/her) is the author of All of Us With Wings and Summer In The City of Roses, a finalist for the Ursula K. Le Guin Fiction Prize. Her recent short stories can be found in The Buckxman Journal and Dispatches From Anarres: Tales in Tribute to Ursula K. Le Guin. She is a Tin House Scholar and her work has been supported by The RACC, Hedgebrook, The Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, and more. She sits on the Board of Shaking The Tree Theater and her play, The Serpent’s School For Wayward Girls, was featured in Forbidden Fruit. Michelle has lived in Portland for many years where she curates the fairytale reading series All Kinds of Fur and lives with her family in a cottage where the forest meets the city.

About Constellation

Constellation is a local-Portland reading series celebrating local and visiting writers of all genres. Constellation centers writers who are underrepresented in mainstream literature and aims to provide a friendly, warm, and inclusive place for Portland’s reading and writing communities to gather together regularly. Readings are held every third Thursday of each month (except Dec and July) at Tin House in NW Portland.

COVID Policy
Masks are required in the downstairs reading space. Readers may unmask while reading. Tin House has an upstairs space for socializing where masks are optional. We ask that you enjoy Constellation from home via livestream if you have symptoms or are testing positive for COVID.Access
At this time, the indoor reading space is accessible only by stairs, though we anticipate that the reading space will be accessible by ramp in early 2023. There are no wheelchair-accessible restrooms. (During warm months, weather permitting, the reading space will be outdoors and fully accessible.)

Readings will be livestreamed with YouTube automated captions, and we will ask readers to provide text copies for accessibility purposes on request. If you need an accessibility copy, please request it 48 hours in advance by emailing constellationreading at gmail dot com.

We will be live-streaming the reading portion of our events starting around 7:15 p.m. on our YouTube channel: constellationreadingseries
