Join Northwest authors Ellen Notbohm and Lisa Reddick as they discuss the historical roots of their river-themed novels.

Set in the waning years of the Montana frontier era, The River by Starlight weaves a sweeping century-old tale of passionate love, unimaginable loss, resilience and redemption embodied in one woman’s tenacious quest for self-determination in the face of devastating misfortune and social injustice. Based on a true story, its themes of women’s health, gender inequity, climate disaster and economic boom-and-bust remain powerfully relevant today.

In The Same River, a field biologist learns her boss is suppressing evidence she’s gathered that could bring about the dismantling of the massive hydro dam threatening an Oregon river. Amid broken dreams and mortal danger, she mysteriously makes contact with a young Native American mother who lived on the river two hundred years before. The two women learn from each other important lessons about how to love and rekindle their faith in the future, even in the face of tragic loss and uncertainty.
