2020 Courageous Voice Breakfast with Cheryl Strayed

September 9, 2020 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 am

$125
Online, N/A, Portland, OR 97207

IMPORTANT UPDATE: In an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, we have decided to postpone the 10th Annual Courageous Voice Breakfast with Cheryl Strayed to Wednesday, September 9th. This will be a virtual event, and we will share log-in instructions with all ticket holders the day before the event. We’re looking forward to seeing you, hearing from Cheryl Strayed, celebrating champions for reproductive freedom and raising critical funds to protect the health of Oregonians in these difficult times!

Since 2011, the Courageous Voice Breakfast has celebrated brave leaders who speak truth in the face of hostility. Now more than ever, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon believes it’s crucial to harness our collective power and amplify our stories.

This is a historic and incredibly monumental year in our country’s history as we approach the 2020 election while our reproductive freedom is under attack. As other states across the country take access away, we can and we must protect and enhance access in Oregon. Oregon remains the best state in the country to access reproductive health care because when it comes to elections and advocacy, we get organized and we fight back with everything we have!

A dynamic and motivating speaker, Cheryl Strayed is the author of the bestselling books Wild, Tiny Beautiful Things, and Brave Enough; the critically acclaimed novel Torch; and the popular advice column “Dear Sugar.” Her story inspired Oprah Winfrey to revive her tremendously popular book club, and her books have been translated into nearly 40 languages and adapted for both the stage and the screen, including Reese Witherspoon’s Academy Award-nominated Wild in 2014.

Strayed’s essays have been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post Magazine, Vogue, Allure, Salon and elsewhere. A longtime feminist activist, she has been outspoken about the body-positivity movement, her mother’s sudden death from cancer and her personal experience with abortion. She previously worked as a political organizer for the Abortion Rights Council of Minnesota and is a founder and board member of VIDA: Women in Literary Arts.

We will also proudly present the Marilyn Epstein Pro-Choice Champion Award and the Volunteer Excellence Award to leaders who have demonstrated a longtime commitment to our movement.
