ELÆ [Lynne DeSilva-Johnson] is an interdisciplinary artist and performer, cultural scholar and educator. They are an Assistant Visiting Professor at Pratt Institute, as well as Founder and Creative Director of The Operating System, a radical open source arts organization and independent press. Their work addresses, in particular, the somatic impact of trauma on persons, forms of language, and systems, as well as the study of resilient, open source strategies for ecological and social change. Recent features and performances include the &Now Festival of Innovative Writing, the Feminist Poetics, Emergent Pedagogies symposium, “From Below: Poetry and Social Justice,” at Interference Archive, Building Interpersonal Infrastructures at SOHO20 Gallery, How to Build a Fire at Open Source Gallery, I Love John Giorno at Artists Space, and the HOT! Festival at Dixon Place, among many others. Recent and forthcoming publications include Big Echo, No, Dear, Matters of Feminist Practice, The Transgender Narratives Anthology, The Philadelphia Supplement, the CDC Poetry Project, and Yes, Poetry. They just released the Collaborative Precarity Bodyhacking Work-Book and Resource Guide, an open source pedagogical document in tandem with an eponymous workshop for the Exponential festival, with stormy budwig and Cory Tamler. In 2019 two additional book projects are forthcoming: the hybrid chapbook Sweet and Low, and Boddy Oddy Oddy, their collaborative ekphrastic project with painter Georgia Elrod. Other current projects include “A PRIORI : Intelligence,” a collaborative speculative STEAM experiment, exploring the relationship between AI, ritual traditions, and plant intelligence. E is always still beginning.
