Beneath the Shadow: Reading featuring Anna Clark

FreeAuthor Justin Gardiner will be reading from his latest book Beneath the Shadow at the Rose City Book Pub with special guest, nonfiction writer Anna Clark, on March 30th at 6:00 pm.
Beneath the Shadow is centered on journal excerpts by eight famous explorers, which Gardiner uses as touchstones for modern day experiences of harsh seas, chance encounters, rugged terrain, and unspeakable beauty. With equal parts levity and lyricism, Gardiner navigates the distance between the historical and the contemporary, the artistic and the scientific, the heroic and the mundane. The bold and tragic tales of Antarctic explorers have long held our collective imagination—almost as much as the mythically remote land such explorers ventured to—and this book makes those voices come to life as few ever have.
Gardiner, a native of the Northwest, now teaches at Auburn University, where he also serves as the nonfiction editor of the Southern Humanities Review. He is a recipient of the Margery Davis Boyden Wilderness Writing Fellowship, as well as the Larry Levis Post-Graduate Stipend in poetry from Warren Wilson College’s MFA Program. His writing has appeared in the Missouri Review, Blackbird, Quarterly West, and ZYZZYVA.
