Carlos Motta–whose exhibition We Got Each Other’s Back is currently on view at PICA–will be in conversation with special guests to mark the publication of History’s Backrooms (Skira, 2020), the first comprehensive monograph of his work documenting nearly 20 years of the leading Colombian artist’s interdisciplinary practice and prolific career exploring alternative and marginalized narratives, identities, communities, and their social and political contexts.
Guest panelists Hendrik Folkerts (Dittmer Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art, Art Institute of Chicago); Eungie Joo (Curator of Contemporary Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art); and Miguel A. López (Co-Director / Chief Curator, TEOR/ética, San José, Costa Rica) will each present briefly about a particular piece or body of work by Motta, followed by a dialogue with the artist and other panelists. Motta’s current exhibition at PICA will also be discussed. Moderated by Roya Amirsoleymani, Artistic Director & Curator of Public Engagement, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art.

Carlos Motta – cuya exhibición We Got Each Other’s Back se expone actualmente en PICA- estará en conversación con invitados especiales, para conmemorar la publicación de History’s Backrooms (Skira, 2020), la primera monografía comprehensiva de su trabajo, documentando casi 20 años de la prolífica carrera y la práctica interdisciplinaria de este destacado artista colombiano, que explora narrativas, identidades y comunidades alternativas y marginalizadas, así como sus contextos políticos y sociales.
Los panelistas invitados Hendrik Folkerts (curador Dittmer de arte moderno y contemporáneo, Art Institute of Chicago), Eungie Joo (curadora de arte contemporáneo, San Francisco Museum of Art) y Miguel A. López (co-director/curador en jefe, TEOR/ética, San José, Costa Rica) harán cada uno una presentación breve sobre una pieza en particular, o sobre el conjunto de trabajo de Motta. Después habrá un diálogo entre el artista y otros panelistas. La exhibición actual de Motta en PICA también será discutida.
