We will be ordering books as orders come in and it shouldn’t be more than a few days before you receive notification that your book has arrived.

Have you ever browsed through a new cookbook and thought how nice it would be to talk to other people who had tried some of those recipes? Now you can.

Join us for the Fall gathering of the Cookbook Club on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 7:00 PM. Books Around the Corner owner Stephanie Rose will lead the discussion. Participants will choose a recipe from the cookbook and “share” it via from their homes. We’ll eat a delicious meal over Zoom, discuss the recipes we made, and what we liked or didn’t like about them. We can also trade cooking and baking tips and recipes.

The event is limited to 12 participants and the purchase of the cookbook at Books Around the Corner confirms your place on the list.

Please purchase the book on our website. We will send you a confirmation email and a Zoom registration link once you have purchased the cookbook. If you have questions, please email Stephanie.

This season we will be cooking out of Jubilee. Throughout her career, Toni Tipton-Martin has shed new light on the history, breadth, and depth of African American cuisine. She’s introduced us to black cooks, some long forgotten, who established much of what’s considered to be our national cuisine. After all, if Thomas Jefferson introduced French haute cuisine to this country, who do you think actually cooked it?

Toni Tipton-Martin brings these masters into our kitchens. Through recipes and stories, we cook along with these pioneering figures, from enslaved chefs
to middle- and upper-class writers and entrepreneurs. With more than 100 recipes, from classics such as Sweet Potato Biscuits, Seafood Gumbo, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and Pecan Pie with Bourbon to lesser-known but even more decadent dishes like Bourbon & Apple Hot Toddies, Spoon Bread, and Baked Ham Glazed with Champagne, Jubilee presents techniques, ingredients, and dishes that show the roots of African American cooking—deeply beautiful, culturally diverse, fit for celebration.

****We will be doing cookbook club indefinitely on Zoom. Virtual cookbook club has its perks. It removes the pressure of perfectly executing dishes. You don’t have to change out of your sweats, deal with the stress that can come from attending and prepping for a gathering, or, phew, feed the results of your cooking to anyone but yourself. What you can share are your thoughts and experiences cooking them with other people who’ve done the same. This also gives those who work and have children more flexibility.
