Jonathan Hill is an award-winning cartoonist who lives in Portland, OR. His comics and illustrations have been featured in publications by Fantagraphics, Lion Forge, tor.com, Powell’s City of Books, The Believer Magazine, and the Society of Illustrators. His first two books, Americus and Wild Weather, were created with writer MK Reed and published by First Second Books. Jonathan also teaches comics at the Pacific Northwest College of Art and serves on the board of directors at Literary Arts. Odessa is the first book he has written and drawn himself.
Cartoonist Barry Deutsch’s 2010 graphic novel Hereville: How Mirka Got Her Sword was the first graphic novel ever to win the prestigious Sydney Taylor Award, and was also nominated for Eisner, Harvey, Ignatz, and Nebula awards. His graphic novel Hereville: How Mirka Met a Meteorite(Amulet Books) won the Oregon Book Award in Graphic Literature in 2014.
Nicole J. Georges is a professor, writer, and illustrator, who has been publishing her own zines and comics for twenty years. She is the author of the Lambda Award–winning graphic memoir Calling Dr. Laura and the diary comic Invincible Summer. She is the author of Fetch: How a Bad Dog Brought Me Home, winner of the 2018 Oregon Book Award in Graphic Literature and the 2018 Readers’ Choice Award.
Aron Nels Steinke is a cartoonist and elementary school teacher. He began making comics in 2006 with the help of a grant from the Xeric Foundation and never stopped. In 2015 he and his wife Ariel Cohn won the Best Publication for Early Readers Eisner Award for their book The Zoo Box (First Second Books). Mr. Wolf’s Class (Scholastic/Graphix) is his newest book series following the adventures of a class of anthropomorphs and their teacher who just so happens to be a wolf. The first book was a New York Times Editor’s Choice selection, received a starred review from Kirkus, and has won numerous awards including the Oregon Spirit Honor Award, the OTTER Award, and Kid’s Comics Choice Award, and the Beehive Award. The second book in the series, Mystery Club, was nominated for a 2019 Harvey Award. Aron and Ariel Cohn won the 2016 Oregon Book Award in Graphic Literature for Zoo Box.
MK Reed is the Eisner and Ignatz nominated author of the graphic novels Americus, The Cute Girl Network, Palefire, Penny Nichols, Science Comics: Dinosaurs, Science Comics: Weather, and the series The Castoffs and Delver. She is the author, with Greg Means, of Penny Nichols, winner of the 2020 Oregon Book Award for Graphic Literature.
