The first of Dovesong Labs Salon Series ft. Luther Hughes (Seattle), Mase Johnson, Ahsante Sankofa Foree, & Sea Mason (PDX).

This is one part: informal panel, 2 parts: art share & all parts necessary!

Luther Hughes is a Seattle native and author of Touched (Sibling Rivalry Press, 2018). He is the Founding Editor of The Shade Journal, Executive Editor for the The Offing, and is 1/3 of The Poet Salon podcast. His writing has been published or is forthcoming in Poetry, The Seattle Times, New England Review, Hayden’s Ferry Review, and others. Luther received his MFA from Washington University in St. Louis. You can follow him on Twitter @lutherxhughes. He thinks you are beautiful.

Sea Mason is a queer writer, cook, plant lover, astrology enthusiast and creative from Portland, OR. Sea’s work is strongly rooted in the spiritual intuitive process, dream work and the energy of alchemy. They use their love of words and language to honor issues around race and gender.

Ahsante Sankofa is a quiet artist, and a tender being chilling down in the cut, in the schism between worldly life and earthly inhabitation. They’re currently based among friends and family, which make up their home in Portland. Their work and practice have recently turned toward wrestling with blackness as it opens the way to understanding the murderous and inaccurate myth of our linear, a to b narrative of time. This is to say they are deeply uninterested in the concept of progress as we’ve talked it so far; they are more interested and take up the study of the infinite possibilities of the now, to imagine otherwise, refuse, kick back wit the fam and other world-ending chores.

mase johnson is a poet and artist from Columbus, Georgia, currently interloping in Portland. They are a cave canem fellow, a pink door fellow, and a winter tangerine fellow. Their first chapbook is on the way in 2020. They are a pisces.

hosted by local coffeedrinker jazzelle james!
