Drop-in Writing Workshop for BIPOC Writers with Anya Pearson
October 5, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$5 – $30This is one of four online workshops for BIPOC writers designed to help you generate new material, refine an existing draft, or simply discover the permission to call yourself a writer.
We will gather on Zoom on the first Tuesday of each month (September-December) and hold space for each other, creating a community with other BIPOC writers. Think of this as a playpen and creative incubator to support you as you generate writing and navigate building a creative practice and life in the arts.
We will write together using specific prompts. We’ll bounce ideas off each other, share our work in progress, and hold space for the fullness of who we are.
Sign up for one, two, three, or all four sessions. Additional sessions are listed below or on this page.
These online workshops are for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) writers, in order to maintain a safe space, and in the interest of lifting up BIPOC voices.
Offered in partnership with Corporeal Writing.
Anya’s goal in creating this space in partnership with Corporeal is to foster and nurture the development of other BIPOC writers by creating an access point to high quality training outside of the M.F.A. system, including creating this affinity space and helping to build community across the distance and isolation of our current moment; a space potent with the reclamation of our voices, our stories, and our worlds.
Anya is an award-winning playwright, poet, producer, actress, and activist. She was recently named a Hodder Fellow at Princeton University’s Lewis Center for the Arts. Anya is under commission at PCS and on staff at Corporeal Writing, where she runs a BIPOC writing collective. She is currently finishing her debut collection of poetry, writing three pilots, interrogating what it means to make art through little square barriers on Zoom in new experimental project called COMMUNITY, and constantly plotting, planning, devising, creating, imagining, and revising visions of a better, more just world. Her plays include: The Measure of Innocence (The Kilroys List, Drammy Award for Best Original Script), Made to Dance in Burning Buildings (Showcase: Joe’s Pub, NYC; Shaking the Tree, Portland, OR), The Killing Fields (2018 Orphic Commission; Last Frontier Theatre Conference; Seven Devils New Play Foundry; Great Plains Theatre Conference), Three Love Songs (Play at Home Initiative, PCS). Memberships: Linestorm Playwrights, Dramatists Guild, Couch Film Collective, Actors’ Equity Association. Find her on Twitter, Instagram, and anyapearson.com.
