Kerry Eggers
January 17, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeWe welcome journalist Kerry Eggers to the store to talk about his recently published book Jail Blazers: How the Portland Trail Blazers Became the Bad Boys of Basketball. In the late ’90s and early 2000s, the Portland Trail Blazers were one of the hottest teams in the NBA. For almost a decade, they won 60 percent of their games while making it to the Western Conference Finals twice. What happened off-court, however, was just as unforgettable as what they did on the court. Eggers, who covered the Trail Blazers as a sports reporter during this controversial era, shares stories from the players, coaches, management, and those in Portland from a time when the players were in the headlines as much for their legal issues as for their play. The book is a comprehensive look at one of the darkest eras of Trail Blazers basketball, full of historical quotes and contemporary interviews with members of the team, as well as discussions of particular games throughout the course of several seasons
Kerry Eggers is a sportswriter who has covered Portland sports for more than forty years, writing for the Portland Tribune since its inception in 2001. He is a five-time winner of the Oregon Sportswriter of the Year Award and has covered major sporting events throughout his career, including the Summer Olympics, the Super Bowl, the World Series, and the NBA Finals, to name a few.
