Read and discuss three great books that capture the diverse experience of the Latino community in the U.S. Explore Hispano traditions and culture in Rudy Anaya’s rural New Mexico, family support in Sonia Sotomayor’s Puerto Rican community, and cultural transformation among Cristina Henriques’ newly-arrived Latin American immigrants. Discussion will be in English.
Read The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henríquez. During their move to the U.S. to get better medical care for their daughter, Arturo and Alma Rivera find themselves living in the margins of American society. With other newly-arrived immigrants from Latin America they experience the life of the unknown and the unwanted. Copies of the book available in the Popular Library at Central Library.
