Let’s Make a Zine! A Riso Zine Making Workshop with Kate Bingaman-Burt
June 12, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
$10 – $50It’s zine making time! Dive into all things zine with Outlet and zine queen Kate Bingaman-Burt! In this virtual workshop we’ll explore zine history, types of zines, talk about where to find zines, how to share them, and experiment with different zine formats (including the versatile and ubiquitous one page zine)—also we’ll spend some time actually sort of DEFINING what a zine is for those who are new to this amazing medium for sharing ideas and knowledge! Kate will give tons of prompts, tips, and inspiration to take those ideas and turn them into a tangible lovely THING.
Depending on the workshop ticket tier you choose, this class culminates in making a collaborative zine that is riso printed and mailed to you!
Supplies Needed
-
A laptop or similar smart device with Zoom downloaded.
-
Blank paper or a sketchbook (we’ll also provide a zine page template before the class).
-
Your favorite darker mark making tools (colors closer to black, dark blue, red, and green work best with the riso—try to stay away from yellows and other light colors).
-
We encourage you to try using only analog tools for this workshop (working with your hands and getting messy is part of the fun!) but you can also use your favorite digital tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate, etc.
-
Not required but also fun: collage materials and cut paper to play with!
Skill Level
-
Open to any level of zinester—from I’ve-never-even-heard-of-a-zine to I-have-my-own-personal-zine-library!
-
Prerequisite: this class uses risograph printing for the final product, so some riso experience is highly recommended. If you haven’t taken our Riso Basics workshop that’s a great place to start!
