Lilian Hellman’s writing was banned for both the erotic undertones between women in a boarding school and revolutionary politics. Heteronormative society has categorized queer writing by the sexuality it portrays, but what do queer people identify as uniquely queer writing? Like other marginalized writers, queer writers walk a line between alienation and assimilation.
