Slamlandia Digital Open Mic ft. Michael Jasso

FreeSlamlandia is a poetry open mic and slam that meets every month. This mic provides a creative, fun, and welcoming space for all literary communities in Portland. We encourage poets new and old to come share their work. We strive towards a safer space for poets to read their own poetry, witness others, and participate in community.

Slamlandia is hosting another digital poetry open mic. This open mic – only poetry, no music please – will take place on August 20th. We’ll be hosting this event with the help of Literary Arts.

Sign ups for the open mic will be posted at 6:30pm PT day of via Facebook posts and an Instagram story. Comment / reply to get your name on the list. Open mic will promptly begin at 7pm. Poets gets 3 minutes to share poetry – please do not go over time.

Michael Jasso (not to be confused for your dad) is a poet, teaching artist and organizer based out of California’s Central Valley. He is the founder of The Loud Mouth Poetry Jam, Visalia’s premiere slam venue for 8+ years. Since he started competing 11 years ago he’s represented his venue at NPS 2014 & 2015, competed as a storm poet at IWPS 2018, and has coached several of Visalia’s reps. Much like your dad, he tells cringey jokes, loves grilling, and askes if your oil has been changed as his form of “I love you.”
A quick run down of Zoom: click the link we’ve shared, register, and that will give you access to the Zoom chat space on the 20th. During the show the host will keep everyone except the person currently reading muted – and then will unmute everyone for 5 seconds after poems are over for everyone to cheer.
