Sarah Smarsh is a nonfiction author who writes about socioeconomic class and rural America. Her first book, Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth, was both a New York Times  bestseller and a finalist for the National Book Award. Her latest work, She Come By It Natural: Dolly Parton and the Women Who Lived Her Songs, explores themes of gender and class while celebrating the life and work of the iconic Dolly Parton.
