manuel arturo abreu & julian smuggles: a reading

Freemanuel arturo abreu is a Dominican poet and artist from the Bronx. They work in text, ephemeral sculpture, and photography in a process of magical thinking, with attention to ritual aspects of aesthetics. They wrote List of Consonants (Bottlecap Press, 2015), transtrender (Quimérica Books, 2016), and Incalculable Loss (Institute for New Connotative Action Press, 2018). They co-facilitate home school, a free pop-up art school in Portland.
julian smuggles is a xicano artist from San Jose, California. their work is like an all black Adidas track suit. they are a part of the dimsummer book club, a small press, based out of Portland, Oregon. julian smuggles currently lives in Portland, Oregon. their work utilizes text, film, and photography to discuss race, gender/sexuality, and the internet. they have been performing, curating, and hosting events since 2011.
