October 8, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

$350
Online, N/A, Portland, OR 97207

WHAT: A 4-week generative online writing lab

WHEN: The online class space—hosted on our rich interactive platform WetInk—opens Friday, October 8th. Weekly Zoom sessions will be held every Saturday morning at 10AM PST. (Zoom dates: 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6.)

ACCESS: $350. Sliding scale and/or payment plans available to all and sundry—contact Daniel at registration@corporealwriting.com

Do you want to write beyond a main character into multiple voices, bodies, and stories? Do you wanna fuck around with time? Do you wanna write into the multiverse? Do you wanna interrupt monomythologies and hero archetypes? If so, it sounds like you wanna fuck shit up and you’ve come to the right place. For four weeks in this generative online writing lab, we’re going to plunge into these worlds and spaces between worlds and we’re going to do it TOGETHER.

Each week you’ll sit down with a video featuring Lidia Yuknavitch breaking down different aspects of writing into the weirder spaces available to us as creative minds. These videos are paired with dynamic texts to read and re-read, and each week you’ll be provided with a different portal to write your way into and through. Where will these writing portals lead? That’s what we’re here to find out.

This is a playful space—a sandbox! If the language in the first paragraph above excited you but you feel overwhelmed/intimidated, please know, this lab is for writers at any point in their journey with words.

Daniel Elder has worked with Lidia Yuknavitch for many years—as class facilitator he will provide in-depth generative feedback on your work at least twice. You’ll also be reading and responding to the work of others in the group, and they in turn will be providing generative feedback on your work. And if you don’t know what generative feedback is, it’s a Corporeal way of engaging with writing, especially writing that’s nascent to the world. We want to look at each other’s words not looking for flaws but for opportunities—places that buzz and zing, that scream to be explored or amplified.

Daniel will also host a weekly 1-hour Zoom meeting on Saturdays at 10AM PST. These will not be lectures, but informal gatherings for discussing the week’s lesson and anything else that comes up when we gather.

Week One: The Art of Polyphonics

Week Two: Narrative Time and Space Distortions

Week Three: Dispersing the action

Week Four: Against Archetype

Daniel Elder is a writer, an editor, and a 2018 Lambda Literary Emerging LGBTQ Writing Fellow.
