This slam is the first qualifying slam for the Women of the World Poetry Slam Finals.

There is a 5 dollar suggested donation for this event but no one is turned away.

We will have a feature from Shanna Alden and Michael Alden!

More about Shanna and Michael:
Michael Alden has spent the past three years teaching and writing in Pittsburgh, PA. While there, they were a member of the 2018 Steel City Slam team. While in Seattle before that, they were a member of the 2016 Rain City Slam team and served as Rain City’s 2016 IWPS representative. Their work has most recently appeared in the Santa Ana River Review and the Eunoia Review.

Shanna Alden is a poet, photographer, and barista who has spent the last three years opening and managing coffee houses in Pittsburgh, PA.
They were a member of the 2017 and 2018 Steel City Slam National Poetry Slam team.
They have also organized many individual slams and shows including serving as event coordinator and co-slammaster for Rain City Slam in Seattle, WA and Steel City Slam in Pittsburgh, PA.
Their work has been featured in “Not Your ______” an anti-street harassment project, Tie My Tubes a radio documentary, and Voicemail Poems.

We will be at our venue, Tiny’s Coffee Northeast! This means our show is all-ages! Everyone is welcome. We do not censor our mic except for instances of hate-speech. Please also note that we start a little earlier then at previous venues.

Accessibility info: Tiny’s is on the 6 bus line, which is a frequent service line. It is a quarter mile from the the streetcar line and about a half mile away from the max. The building and stage is wheelchair accessible and most of the seating can be moved to create space for accessibility equipment. The venue serves food and coffee, so it is not scent-free.
