PUBLISHING: w/ Literary Agent Rayhané Sanders

$150We have the great privilege of hosting Rayhané Sanders, literary agent at Massie and McQuilkin, for a limited amount of twenty-minute 1-on-1 consultations spread across three days, November 15-17. (Yes, Rayhané represents our own Lidia Yuknavitch.) In these personal meetings, she will give you feedback from an agent’s point of view on the first 30 pages of your manuscript. (A note: Ms. Sanders comes from New York publishing, and is very encouraging but also direct!) The deadline for submitting your 30 pages will be November 1st.
The cost of a 1-on-1 consultation is $350. Not in Portland? Ms. Sanders will be available for 1-on-1 consults over Skype!
In addition, Ms. Sanders will be offering a publishing seminar on Saturday November 16th. Come to this seminar and have the often-intimidating world of querying and agents and publishing demystified for you by one of the best and brightest. The seminar is $150. Bundle with a consultation to receive a $50 discount.

Rayhané Sanders attended NYU and began her publishing career at Newsweek Magazine. She then moved to book publishing, holding positions at Penguin Group USA, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and William Morris Endeavor, where she worked with New York Times bestselling authors and recipients of such honors as the PEN/Hemingway Award, PEN/New England Award, Guggenheim and Wallace Stegner Fellowships, National Endowment for the Arts grants, and more. Rayhané began to represent authors at WSK Management, where she worked with a slew of internationally bestselling authors and added a New York Times bestseller and winners of the Hopwood Award, Oregon Book Award, and Massachusetts Book Award, among others, to her list.
She has been a literary agent at premier boutique agency Massie & McQuilkin (whose clients include Roxane Gay, Jesmyn Ward, Kevin Young, Tom Perrotta, Dan Chaon, Kelly Link, and many more) for 5 years; and is on the lookout for literary and historical fiction, upmarket book club fiction, propulsive narrative nonfiction, story and essay collections, and select memoir. She is interested in fresh voices telling fresh stories we haven’t heard before (including for YA audiences); and is particularly fond of immigrant stories and stories concerned with race, sexuality, specific cultural settings, cross-cultural themes, and notions of identity. Her list includes Lidia Yuknavitch, Kerry Cohen, Te-Ping Chen, Devin Murphy, Janet Beard, Maureen Stanton, and other bestselling and award-winning authors.
She is also an independent book editor, offering editorial services (from developmental edits and line edits, to query consultations, to everything in between) to non-clients on a per-project basis.
