Signal Fire was founded 10 years ago on three beliefs: first, that artists offer creative approaches to our world’s most daunting challenges; second, that activists foster drive and resources to strengthen communities; and third, we knew y’all had to be friends. Signal Fire could have really grown to become anything, and you have made this thing so much more dynamic, rigorous, and playful than we ever initially dreamed.
At the outset, we imagined small groups traveling together into threatened wildlands, discussing ways to shift the dominant views of land in the American West. You invited us to take on more. Thanks to your belief, support, and labor Signal Fire has hosted several original exhibitions, taken over 400 artists into the backcountry, developed and published seven issues of our original journal Leaf Litter, fostered a guide collective of 12 incredible leaders, and helped countless first-time campers ignite their passion for wilderness advocacy.
This event will also serve as a final soiree for c3:initiative in their St.Johns location. For six years, c3 has supported creative inquiry for 80+ artists in the region. c3:initiative is honored to host Signal Fire’s 10 Year Anniversary celebration, continuing to share resources with their creative community, a core value which will continue to inform their mission in their new downtown location opening later this year.
Please join us! Our 10th Anniversary event will celebrate and raise funds to support our growing community through an experiential silent auction, raffle, food and fare! Piping hot Kaj-anne Pepper will emcee. Enjoy live music by Colectivo Altepee, Colectivo Son Jarocho de Portland, and Marisa Anderson music. See you out there!
