Slamlandia May 7th Poetry Open Mic ft. John-Francis Quiñonez
May 7, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
FreeWe are pleased to announce that Slamlandia will be hosting another digital poetry open mic this month – with a feature from John-Francis Quiñonez!
This open mic – only poetry, no music please – will take place on May 7th. We’ll be hosting this event with the help of Literary Arts. We’re going to be changing up just a little how this one will work, so here’s a run down:
:::THREE DAYS BEFOREHAND:::
— On Monday, we will make a post about the Zoom link. You can reach out to us via email ( slamlandia@gmail.com ) or DMs, and we will send you the Zoom link for our Thursday chatroom. You can reach out to us anytime from Monday to Thursday.
:::DAY OF:::
— 6:30pm :: a Facebook post and an Instagram story will be posted, opening sign ups to the public. Comment / reply to get your name on the list.
— 6:45pm :: the waiting room will be lifted and the room will be open.
— 7:00pm :: poetry will begin!
This event will go from 7pm – 9pm. Poets gets 3 minutes to share poetry – please do not go over time! If poets are late comers and join the chat after it’s well in session, they can use the chat function of Zoom to request signing up on the list, though a spot at that point will not be guaranteed.
We will be having a feature from the wonderful John-Francis Quiñonez:
John-Francis Quiñonez is a Desert Flower & Current Resident of Providence, Educator, provider of Accessible Aide as Your Queer Mawm, and Poet.///// Truly just a Queer, Latinx Wild Thing on the Hunt for Candy almost Always.//// Has a handful of Poems in Maps for Teeth, Yellow Chair Review, Voicemail Poems, Counterclock, Pigeon Pages, and Slamfind /// Is trying their best not to talk too much about Rock and Roll or Fruit Bats, but Promises Nothing.
A quick run down of Zoom: you will click the link that we post, and that will transport you to our Zoom chat space. You can access this through both phone or computer – if you do so through phone, please make sure to have a copy of the poem(s) you wish to share elsewhere as you wont be able to both operate Zoom and pull your poem up in a different app simultaneously. You can mute and unmute your own mic, but during the actual show the host will keep everyone except the person currently reading muted – and then will unmute everyone for 5 seconds after poems are over for everyone to cheer.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
We look forward to seeing your faces on all our laptops this Thursday evening! See you then!
