FreeWe warmly welcome Stevan Allred to the store on Wednesday, February 13th at 7 pm to read from his new novel The Alehouse at the End of the World, published by Forest Avenue Press.
The novel is an epic comedy set in the sixteenth century, where bawdy Shakespearean love triangles play out with shapeshifting avian demigods and a fertility goddess, drunken revelry, bio-dynamic gardening, and a narcissistic, bullying crow, who may have colluded with a foreign power – a juicy fable and a hopeful tale for our troubled times.
Robin Cody says Alehouse is “the wildly inventive and lovingly hilarious work of a master craftsman,” and Kate Gray says that reading this novel “delights like a fine ale.”
Stevan Allred’s first book was A Simplied Map of the Real World: The Renata Stories (2013), which Tom Spanbauer described as “a highly skilled collection of interwoven stories, surprising in its various styles and voices.” He adds, “But the real surprise is how close Stevan Allred gets to the beating heart of what it means to be human.” He was also a contributor to City of Weird: 30 Otherworldly Portland Tales.
