that sprouted on the spot.
It all began the day she passed
a drab, abandoned lot.
Fashion-forward Mary is known for adding flair everywhere she goes. When she spots an abandoned lot in her neighborhood, Mary knows she can use her stylish talent to spruce it up. Soon she’s rallying neighborhood shops and calling on her friends to help. With Mary leading the way, this group carries out her little plan that has a big impact on her community!
Portland Book Festival General Admission Passes are required for entry into all events. Passes are $15 in advance and $25 day of Festival. Youth 17 & under, or with a valid high school ID get in FREE. All full-priced General Admission Passes include a $5 book fair voucher and entry into Portland Art Museum. Passes admit attendees to the Festival; individual events are first-come, first-served. More info here.
Vanessa Brantley-Newton is a self-taught illustrator, doll maker, and crafter who studied fashion illustration at FIT and children’s book illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She is the author and illustrator of Grandma’s Purse, Just Like Me, and Becoming Vanessa, and has illustrated numerous children’s books. Vanessa lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her husband, daughter, and a very rambunctious cat named Stripes.
Tammi Sauer is the author of more than thirty picture books including Mary Had a Little Glam, Your Alien, and Lovebird Lou. She is a former teacher and library media specialist who now celebrates reading and writing with thousands of kids each year through her author visits. Tammi and her family live in Edmond, Oklahoma, where they make and carry out all kinds of plans. Her latest book is Mary Had a Little Plan.
Emily Arrow creates songs about books! Formerly a K-6 music educator, Emily’s passion for books led her to create music that promotes literacy. Formerly in Tennessee, now based in Texas, Emily brings picture books to life by collaborating with bestselling authors and publishers. Emily’s YouTube Channel is a classroom sensation with over 19,000 followers and an average of 800,000 views per year, and she makes over 60 classroom and library visits a year. Emily also shares her passion for literacy and music by offering workshops, classes and weekly story times. Studio: A Place for Art to Start is Emily’s first book for children.
